Documenting Medical Necessity for EMDR Therapists

Confused about the mixed messages you’ve gotten about documenting medical necessity through your notes and treatment plans? Unsure how to document exactly what you are doing in your sessions with clients in a way that protects their privacy but still clearly and accurately communicates their journey through EMDR treatment? Frustrated by the constantly-moving goalposts set by insurance companies about what ‘medical necessity’ even is, or how to demonstrate it?

“Documenting Medical Necessity for EMDR Clinicians” is a two-part training which will be offered virtually on the same day with breaks, both as live webinars and as a pre-recorded/self-paced training for EMDRIA CEU. It’s been developed and honed by Rebecca Toner, MA, LPC, an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant and CEU provider. We’ll cover what should and should not be in notes, different kinds of notes, treatment plans, and the guidelines set forth by some of the most powerful, prevalent insurance carriers around.

Part One: “Progress Notes, Medical Necessity, and EMDR”

Part Two: “Documenting Medical Necessity in Treatment Plans using EMDR”

Rebecca believes that knowledge and consistency amongst EMDR clinicians will give us a tool to fight back against oppressive insurance companies on behalf of ourselves, each other, our businesses, our clients, and our field.

EMDR Basic Training

We are in the final stages of developing an EMDRIA-Approved Basic EMDR Training from a liberated, social and racial justice perspective! We will incorporate the proven research and theories which formulate the EMDR model as well as decolonization and engaging discussions around the white supremacy ethical issues inherent in mental health treatment, including the EMDR world.

If you are a clinician who has always wanted to learn this amazing healing modality from experienced providers passionate about creative ways to use EMDR, but financial hurdles made this training feel out of reach, please get on our waitlist!

We plan to host several live, virtual Basic EMDR trainings. Dates and more details TBA!

We will be offering scholarship opportunities for clinicians with marginalized intersectional identities with demonstrated need. Please consider donating to this important mission. 100% of your donation (minus Paypal fees) will go to our BIPOC Scholarship Fund . Please note that we have rejected the neoliberalistic binds of the nonprofit status, and therefore your donation is not tax-deductible. We appreciate your true generosity.
